Rough Shooting and Smaller Days Can Be Just As Much Fun at Much Less Cost

In these times of financial hardship consider doing some rough shooting or smaller walk and stand days instead of larger formal driven days. They can be just as much fun and are a fraction of the cost. The rewards are sometimes of a more subtle nature but are there to be had.

Enjoyment can be found in many different ways in the shooting field. There are simple rough shooting days available for as little as 150 per gun. Many of these take place in stunning locations with brilliant views and you have the time to take it all in and savor it as you go along. There is also the pleasures to be derived from watching good dogs work which is magnified if it is your own dog! But perhaps the best feature of rough shooting is the glorious uncertainty of it. You do not know when you are going to get a shot you have to react to the circumstances often without much time. On a good day particularly if it is windy every type of shot can come your way. Add to this a wide variety of quarry and you have the makings of a great day.

Another pleasure often overlooked is the camaraderie on days like this. There is more time available to talk and interact with your friends plus the physical exertion is both good for you and a shared effort. Somehow the post shoot pint of beer is just that more enjoyable and satisfying. A good fun idea for days like this is to do a sweep based on the following formula. The bag plus the shot count times the species shot. The range of possible answers is a big one and it adds to the fun of the day as anybody that has guessed in the high field is desperate to add species to the bag. Good fun and adds spice to proceedings.

To summarise there are a wide variety of smaller days on offer that will not break the bank but will give much enjoyment to all their participants. Kestuxramglr fact a short break with 3/4 days of good fun can be had for less than the cost of one modest formal driven day.
